How the service works

A licence application should describe the actual activities, including goods stored, customers, delivery patterns and equipment. A business label alone does not show whether a prohibited activity is involved or whether the operation stays secondary to the home.

The city’s summary does not publish a fee or processing time on this page. Those are recorded gaps rather than guessed costs. If the project also changes a room’s use or involves construction, the building-permit route is separate; the city’s building guidance says changes of use can need a permit even without physical work.

Eligibility and local rules

Who can operate the home business?

The city defines it as a business or occupation carried on in a dwelling by a resident of that dwelling. It is not a way to treat a non-resident commercial operator as an ordinary household use.

Must the property remain primarily a home?

Yes. The business must be clearly subordinate to the residential use and must not create a public nuisance or adverse effect on surrounding land or the neighbourhood.

How much floor area may the business use?

It may occupy at most 25% of the finished floor area, up to a maximum of 50 square metres. Both limits apply; the larger number does not replace the percentage cap.

Using the service

When may business pickups and deliveries occur?

The city limits them to 6:30 a.m. through 8 p.m. Plan deliveries inside that window rather than assuming a residential address has unrestricted commercial delivery hours.
